This course is aimed at people involved in the selection, wearing, storage and maintenance of full face mask respirators.
Course aims
After completing the course, attendees will:
- Understand the theory of why respiratory equipment is required
- Be able to correctly fit full face mask respirators in accordance to manufacturers instructions
- Understand different filters and when to change them
- Carry out pre use checks on full face mask respirators
- Be able to inspect full face mask respirators monthly and record findings in accordance with Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations (COSHH)

- Hazards and risks of exposure
- Working principle of respiratory protective equipment
- Types of filters available
- Correct fitting and pre use checks
- Aftercare, cleaning and storage
- Responsibilities of employees
This course follows the HSG53 requirements for respiratory training.
Assessment: Practical assessment on the wearing of the face mask and a written test.
Note: Face Fit Testing is required seperately to the course to ensure adequate fitting to an individual.
