Equipment Maintenance

In addition to pre-use checks, all confined space kit requires regular maintenance or calibration in line with manufacturers schedules and relevant legislation.

Only authorised persons are permitted to inspect and service equipment, with our manufacturer trained and certified technicians you can be sure of the highest standards required. We can service your equipment in our specialist workshops or alternatively provide an on-site facility for a range of equipment. With either option our technicians ensure your kit is in full working order with the correct, current test documentation. They follow a regulated equipment issue and inspection process in order to maintain all equipment to safe and legal standards so that you can depend on it when you need it the most.

Maintenance

It is subject to Manufacturers requirements that it should be serviced*annually and under LOLER (Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998) lifting equipment used for man riding should also be inspected on a six monthly basis by a competent person.

If you have a Man Riding Winch, Fall Arrest Recovery Block and Tripods as part of your Confined Space Kit our manufacturer trained, and certificated technicians can inspect and carry out the required maintenance to ensure continued safe working of your equipment. Inspections can be performed on site or in our specialist workshops. Annual servicing can also be offered on site in certain locations

Fall Arrest Equipment Inspection

Fall protection equipment (includes Safety Harnesses, Lanyards, Self-Retracting Lanyards, and other Fall Arrest

Devices, etc) is typically inspected at six monthly intervals – this should not be confused with testing. Our technicians have undergone IOSH approved Fall Protection Equipment Inspection training and issue the correct, current test documentation. The inspections can either be carried out on site or in our specialist workshops.

Respiratory Protective Equipment (RPE) Servicing

All Respiratory Protective Equipment (RPE) including Full B.A., Escape B.A.,

Airline Apparatus (Supplied Air) and Respirators should be inspected monthly and serviced annually. The more complex Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) which includes Full B.A. and Escape Breathing Apparatus (EBA) typically requires additional major service/overhauls on a six to ten yearly basis, depending upon manufacturer. In addition, the compressed air cylinders used with this type of equipment require testing (Hydrostatic Test) every five years.

Airline Apparatus supplied via compressed air cylinders fitted to Airline Trolleys shares the same servicing requirements as SCBA, in addition if the air supply is from a factory ring main the quality of this air must be checked at least every three months and more frequently when the air purity cannot be assured. Mobile Air Supply (compressors) should be Air Purity tested whenever re-sited.

Oxygen Self Rescuers such as the MSA 30/100 or SaVox Chemical Oxygen Rebreathers require less maintenance due to their sealed design but should undergo a leak tightness test at least annually.

Respirators, either Full Face Mask or Half Mask for use with filters require regular maintenance and the replacement of certain parts essential to their safe functioning. Powered Air Purifying Respirators (PAPR) are also subject to essential maintenance to ensure that the Fan Units are working correctly and within manufacturers tolerances. Thorough inspection of the head tops used with the fan units and replacement of vital parts makes sure that the design level of protection is preserved.

The servicing of RPE can be facilitated either in our specialist workshops or on site by our manufacturer trained and certificated technicians.

Gas Detection Servicing

To ensure the reliability of Gas Detectors most manufacturers we recommend a six-monthly calibration period, this applies to both Portable and Fixed Gas Detectors. The calibration checks the functionality and response of the sensors to the target gas.

Whether it is a Single Gas or Multi Gas Monitor the calibration optimises the accuracy and confirms that in the event of exposure to the specific hazard the instrument will respond and alarm. Our technicians are trained and certificated by the manufacturers to maintain your Personal Gas Detectors including routine sensor replacement and other rep airs. This can be carried out in our specialist workshops or on-site.

Watch our video below on the servicing and calibration of personal gas detectors.
